Owner
Surry Roberts, M.D., owner of Sugar Hollow Retreat, is a retired rheumatologist, currently living in Raleigh, N.C. After extended service in Vietnam with the 5th Special Forces group, Surry decided to circle the globe with his medical degree. His travels landed him in New Zealand, in Australia with the Royal Flying Doctor Service, and in Nepal with a mountaineering endeavor. He is a member of the Explorers' Club in New York City, having visited over 90 countries, with particular interest in Zambia and Australia. He is deeply committed to the Montagnard refugees from Vietnam. Surry first envisioned Sugar Hollow as a camping facility for youth leadership development, focusing on conservation and environmental protection. The development of the retreat from there has gone far beyond his wildest predictions and shows no signs of slowing. Sugar Hollow remains a great interest and a challenge for Surry, affording rich rewards.
