E.C.Miller to Play at Watauga Lake Experience

Sugar Hollow Retreat favorites E.C. Miller and the Goldrush Review will return to play at the Watauga Lake Experience, taking place on May 26 and 27. The band joins an exciting lineup of other local musicians set to help festival-goers celebrate the Watauga Lake community.

 

The band, specializing in Bluegrass, consists of:

 

  • E.C. Miller – Banjo
  • JoAnn Draughn – Standup bass
  • Mike Draughn – Mandolin
  • Boyd Dowell – Lead vocals, guitar
  • Gail Evans – Vocals, guitar

 

E.C. Miller has been playing music for over 50 years, beginning when he was 17 years old. He has been in many bands over the years, including The Blue Velvet Boys, Laws Brothers Band, Joe River Boys, Dusty Road Band, and the Moody and Miller Band. In addition to his Banjo duties with the Goldrush Review, he and his brothers also play as the Miller Brothers.

 

In 1976 E.C. was a guest on Charles Kuralt's show for the Bicentennial celebration. He also appeared on the North Carolina Traditions and Transitions program. In 1988, E.C. released an album with Benny Sims.

 

E.C. has taught Bluegrass banjo for 13 years at East Tennessee State University, in addition to teaching at home. He has shared his experience with the instrument with students for 42 years.
