Food City 500 | Fast Cars & Hot Passes

Known as the fourth largest sports venue in America and the eighth largest venue in the world, Bristol Motor Speedway is opening its track once again for the Food City 500, on April 19, 2015. The Food City 500 is a 500 lap race held by the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series. Considered one of the best races in NASCAR, the Food City 500 is only one of two NASCAR races to be held on the Bristol Motor Speedway. To find out more information about this race this spring, check out the Bristol Motor Speedway website at or call 1-877-875-5099.

The National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing (NASCAR) was founded by Bill France Sr. in 1948, and is the largest consenting body of stock car racing in America. With over 1500 races at over100 tracks in 39 states, NASCAR is known as a popular American sport, with a strong gathering in the South, the location of NASCAR’s bootlegging origins. Stock car races started in Appalachian Mountains in the early 1920s with the prohibition of alcohol. Using modified vehicles to avoid and escape police, drivers ran bootleg whiskey and prized “moonshine” through the twisting mountain roads at “lightening” speeds in order to make illegal deliveries. Even after the 1933 repeal of the Prohibition Act, drivers continued running “shine” and these stock car races eventually became a staple for an engaging afternoon in the South.
