How to Get Employees to Enjoy a Corporate Retreat

For those in upper management, and those who are fond of the concept as a whole, a corporate retreat can be the best way to bring workers together for a common goal. Whether it be to boost worker morale, or to work on specific issues that you see with workers (or the company), a corporate retreat can get the job done and offer a great experience for all involved. For those who are the actual employees themselves, however, it may be a different story. Those who are forced (or “willed”) to go to a corporate retreat may see nothing but a bland time with work in an awkward setting. Any successful corporate retreat is not like this at all, and can actually be incredibly beneficial for multiple reasons. How do you get employees to buy into the concept of a corporate retreat however? It is all in the planning of the actual retreat itself. We are not going to focus on the business aspects of the actual retreat itself. The business parts of a corporate retreat are a necessary evil that must be tailored to your specific needs as a company. What we can go over, however, are the multiple aspects that can (or should) be implemented that will make the corporate retreat a time that can be both fun and beneficial. The first thing to consider is food. Food is an incredibly important part of anyone’s life, and is a time that can bring all of the workers together for a common purpose that is important to all. Having good food, as well as adequate meals, can make or break an entire retreat. Bad food makes anyone miserable, and not enough of it can make anyone grouchy and unproductive. One food option you may not have considered is making your own meal. We have a great kitchen to accommodate this team building exercise and you will find that you learn a lot about your team members while you are cooking up a meal. Another aspect to think about is entertainment. When people think of a retreat, especially a working retreat, they do not think of fun and entertainment. At Sugar Hollow, there are a lot of opportunities for fun that surround the campus of the retreat itself. Museums like Sycamore Shoals State Historic Park and Museum and the Bristol Motor Speedway Racetrack are great ways to bond workers together in a retreat atmosphere that has nothing to do with work or business.  Your could also get outdoors and go fly fishing, check out the area’s amazing waterfalls, or try some water activities like canoeing, tubing or renting a few pntoon boats. While it is always important to make sure that the work gets done, it is even more important to make sure that the employees are willing to learn and take part in the action of the corporate retreat itself. Corporate retreats can be beneficial and functional. The productivity that can result from a retreat is astonishing. What is important to realize, however, is that the success of a retreat lies in the planning. If food is properly taken care of, and fun is somehow factored into the mix, a successful corporate retreat will help employees to enjoy their time – and make for a better work environment when they get back to the office.
