Bristol: The Birthplace of Country Music

Known commonly as the “Birthplace of Country Music,” Bristol Tennessee is a unique city with both history and fun for groups of all ages.  Home to country music legends and NASCAR’s most elite venue, this historic city invites guests to come and witness the fresh mountain air and the soft rolling hills of the Eastern Tennessee country.  For more information about visiting Bristol, please call 423-989-5500 or check out the website at http://bristoltn.org/visiting.cfm.

Nestled right on the Tennessee Virginia State Line, the little city is home to some of the first recordings of country music.  Jimmie Rodgers, the Carter Family, and famous mountain music man Uncle Charlie Osborne are among those first recorded musicians in 1927 when producer Ralph Peer of Victor Records moved to recording local Tennessee musicians.  The city is also the home of Tennessee Ernie Ford, who released over 50 singles throughout his career and got his start at as an announcer at the local WOPI-AM.  The Birthplace of Country Music Alliance has focused on promoting the city as an educational destination since 1994, hoping to educate the public about the history of local country music.  The third weekend in September, Bristol plays host to the Bristol Rhythm & Roots Reunion, a music festival that celebrates the heritage of country music.
